About Me

I am a first-year MS Biostatistics student at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. In June 2024, I graduated with distinction from Carleton College with a BA in Statistics and a minor in Public Policy.

Education and Research Experience

In high school, I loved studying the hard sciences and received my senior class's Excellence in Science Award. High school is also where I began gaining valuable research experience. Starting in the summer after my sophomore year, and continuing into college, I worked as a student research assistant in the Sussel Lab at the University of Colorado Medical Campus, studying Type I Diabetes. I gained valuable benchwork skills and a deeper understanding of what goes into world-renowned medical research.

At Carleton, I realized that analyzing data is the type of research that excites me the most. This realization led me to pursue further education and employment in biostatistics and data science. In the summer of 2023, I participated in the Colorado Summer Institute in Biostatistics (COSIBS) program. During COSIBS, I gained more experience analyzing data for medical research in R through work on a project investigating lung capacity decline in youth Cystic Fibrosis patients. My work at COSIBS and the work I have done in my classes in my MS program have confirmed my strong desire to enter a profession where I can work with data to help solve problems in my community.

Athletics and Hobbies

I grew up in Denver, Colorado, which is where I found my love for spending time outside with friends and family. When I am not enjoying the outdoors, or working on statistics, I usually spend my time playing many sports. I have always enjoyed being a part of a team and the spirit of healthy competition! In high school, I played soccer, varsity basketball, varsity golf, and varsity softball. I was elected as a captain for the softball team my sophomore, junior, and senior years. I continued to play varsity softball for four years at Carleton and led the team as a captain in my junior and senior years. I enjoy recreational sports such as pickleball and rock climbing. After graduating from Carleton and retiring from varsity athletics, I missed being part of a team. I now play pick-up ultimate frisbee in Ann Arbor. My love for being part of a team also translates to my collaborative approach to coursework. I am eager to work on group projects with my classmates at UMich and for other research teams.
